Dr. Charlotte Tate is a mixed race, butch-presenting lesbian, and an openly trans woman.

Dr. Tate received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago in 1999. She received a Master's of Science (M.S.) degree (in 2001) and a Ph.D. in Social/Personality Psychology at the University of Oregon (in 2006). For an overview of her professional activities see her current vita. Also, see her own website or the "About" page on this website for her research interests, foci, and approach.

Dr. Tate is currently a Full(y Promoted) Professor at San Francisco State University and Coordinator of the Social, Personality, and Affective Science Psychology Master's of Arts Degree.

She publishes under "Charlotte Chucky Tate" to have female visibility, transgender visibility, and butch lesbian visibility simultaneously. (She has also published articles and book chapters under the name "Chuck Tate" [a nickname] in an attempt to have butch lesbian visibility at the turn of the century, when this type of visibility was en vogue.)

As an advisor to graduate students, Dr. Tate believes in co-curating the master's thesis research experiences with her students. Consequently, she is interested in providing a mentor-mentee context in which the student brings their interests to catalyze the project and she provides the impetus by guiding the student toward the appropriate questions in the extent literature and the appropriate statistical analysis (or analyses) to answer to provide a useful answer to this research question.
